There are direct long-distance buses from Shangri-La to Lhasa, departing from Shangri-La Bus Station at 10:00 AM every other day (2-day journey, RMB 650 fare, passing through Deqin, Markam, etc.). However, there’s no direct bus to Kathmandu. Travelers must first take a bus to Lhasa, then transfer to a bus heading for Gyirong Port (departures on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 17-hour drive, fare RMB 280–480). Upon arriving at the port, shared cars to Kathmandu are available (8-hour drive, shared car fares around RMB 160–200). It’s recommended to check schedules in advance or arrange through a travel agency. Chinese visa, Tibet Travel Permit, and Nepal on-arrival visa are required.
